Meaningful Mantras is on a mission to empower everyone to love themselves a little more. Through candles, mirror stickers, jewelry & clothing, this joyous brand wants to inspire others to become the best version of themselves while injecting some much-needed kindness into the world.
Superhero Mamas reached out to Sofia & asked her some questions; check out the full interview below.
Q: Tell us a little about your company & journey to making it happen.
A: Meaningful Mantras began as a journey to truly love myself when I was 17 years old. I hid from my reflection in the mirror and decided that needed to change. I wrote on sticky notes "you are beautiful, you are strong, you are worthy, you are enough" and placed them around my mirror. The first products ever created were our mirror mantra sets when I was 18 years old. The mirror affirmations changed my life and I felt compelled to help others in their journey towards self-love too. There were many challenges along the way of starting my own business. One being my young age, and the other not knowing anything about business other than the desire to learn. But when you believe in what you do with all of your being, challenges don't stop you. They motivate you!
Q: Why is this mission important to you?
A: Placing those sticky notes on my mirror when I was 17 shifted how I saw myself. In fact, it changed the trajectory of my life. It didn't happen overnight - over the course of a few months seeing those affirmations in the mirror every time I looked at myself completely changed how I felt and feel about myself. For years I didn't believe I was beautiful or strong or worthy of love, but repeating those affirmations back to myself every day that I am worthy and strong and beautiful made me finally see it and believe it. I knew that if those mirror affirmations could help me, it could help at least help one other person along their journey.
Q: What is your "superpower"?
A: My caring. I care so much for others and I want to see everyone around me reach their highest potential and live a life they love. Life is too short to not love who you are or what you do.
Q: We're redefining what it means to be a "mama." Some mamas are traditional mothers; others are unbelievable foster & adoptive moms, devoted caregivers, selfless grandmothers, badass sisters, loving wives, or your very best friend. What does "mama" mean to you?
A: I love that! One of my biggest dreams is being a mother one day. But for now, being a mama to me means growing Meaningful Mantras. Having a small business is like having a child. It takes so much time, energy, and money to grow it. Mothers have the greatest job on the planet.
Q: What change do you hope to see in the world through your business/ product/idea?
A: I want somebody to receive a product from Meaningful Mantras or hear a message from us and it to spark something within them. I want people to believe that they are loved and worthy of love. I want to change lives, perspectives and perceptions. From what I've learned through my own journey, when you raise your standards your whole life can change.
Q: Any advice to the next generation of #SuperheroMamas?
A: Never give up on yourself or your dreams. Life will come at you with everything it's got, never give up. You are here for a reason. You have thoughts, ideas, dreams and goals inside you for a reason. Someone out there will be inspired by your story and resilience.
Q: If you could be any #superhero, who would it be & why?
A: My mother. Her name is Tina. She is the kindest and most resilient woman I know. With every cruel person she encounters, she somehow remains kind. One of my favorite things she taught me is, "Everyone is someone's child." Even when someone is harsh and unjust, repeating that to myself puts into perspective that everyone wants love and to be loved, and to be kind anyways. You never know what that person was going through earlier to make them lash out. If I can be 1/10th of the woman my mother is, I know I have accomplished what I needed to.
